Alternatives Inc.

Alternatives Inc. Builds on the strengths of young people by focusing on leadership development, prevention of violence and substance abuse, academic enrichment and counseling.

Big Shoulders Fund

The mission of the Big Shoulders Fund is to provide support to the Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner-city Chicago. 100% of the funds raised by the Big Shoulders Fund are used to support children through scholarships, special education programs, instructional equipment, much needed school facility improvements, faculty support, and operating grants.

By The Hand

By The Hand is an after-school program with an emphasis on academics and a commitment to nurturing the whole child—mind, body and soul. Founded in Cabrini-Green and located strategically throughout some of Chicago's most impoverished inner-city communities, where overcrowded and underfunded schools abound, By The Hand is filling a special need—and with great success. Kids are saying no to drugs, gang violence and teenage pregnancy. They are rejecting illiteracy and poverty as a way of life. Instead, they are developing into honor-roll students and changing the trajectory of their lives.

Cabrini Connections

Cabrini Connections is a one-on-one tutoring and mentoring program serving 7th through 12th grade students living in Chicago's Cabrini-Green public housing project.

Centro Romero

Centro Romero is a community-based organization that serves the refugee immigrant population on the northeast side of Chicago. We run an after-school program for children ages 7-16 to help the youth improve grades and receive a complete understanding of the work they are doing in school.

Chicago Public Schools - Summer Quest

Summer Quest connects students to pre-college programs by providing resources and support. We inspire high school students to visualize what is possible through higher education. By connecting low-income high school students with high quality pre-college programs, we send students outside their local neighborhoods on a quest for new intellectual, social, and leader- ship experiences. We provide the financial re- sources and support for students to access learning opportunities that would otherwise be unaffordable.

Christopher House

Christopher House creates a positive environment for young people and instills in them the values, skills, and beliefs they need to fully engage in the world around them. Our Youth Development programs surround children and youth with people who appreciate and accept them. We provide opportunities outside of school for students to learn, develop interests, and foster relationships with their peers. Christopher House staff and hundreds of volunteers: Promote academic success and a desire to excel by providing elementary and high school students with one-on-one tutoring. Provide young people with a safe and structured educational environment. Set high expectations for success and provide the support and guidance needed for youth to reach their goals. Enable community parents to work full-time knowing their children are safe.

Cristo Rey High School

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School offers a Catholic college preparatory education for the immigrant families of Chicago's near southwest side to advance the human and intellectual capacities, as well as the religious and cultural heritage, of all those it serves. The goal is to maximize the students' potential to prepare them to assume leadership roles in the civic, religious, business and cultural life of our city and nation.

Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund

The Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund (DMSF) is a non-profit organization that provides four-year high school scholarships and educational support services to economically disadvantaged Chicago eighth grade students who demonstrate academic potential in order to ensure they are properly prepared for college.

HighSight

HighSight is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships, tutoring, mentoring and leadership development for students to attend and succeed at private high schools in Chicago. There are currently 138 students in 24 high schools who receive financial, academic and social support from HighSight.

Holy Trinity High School

Hostelling International Chicago

Hostelling International Chicago conducts community outreach programs that teach high school students from Chicago's often segregated and culturally isolated neighborhoods to build pride around their own culture, while opening their minds to learn about a new neighborhood and culture of their peers.

North Lawndale College Preparatory Charter High School

The mission of North Lawndale College Preparatory Charter High School is to prepare young people from under-resourced communities for graduation from high school with the academic skills and personal resilience necessary for successful completion of college. Project Exploration

Project Exploration inspires minority youth and girls with the wonders of science and discovery. We GET students interested in science, KEEP students interested in science and EQUIP students to pursue science. Our programs target Chicago Public School students who have been low and middle achievers, but who are also curious, open-minded, and passionate.
